VEAPS - General Information

All contributions to the Virtual Explorer will shortly able to access the Virtual Explorer Automated Publishing System (VEAPS). This PHP driven XML/XSL based system will be directly accessible by the author, as well as the volume editor(s), and it will greatly simplify the submission, review and editing process. Time to publication can be vastly reduced by utilisation of this system.

The journal is able to keep its costs minimal through cooperation of its contributors, and we hope this system will enable this to continue. Feedback is essential, however, so share your experience with us.

The following tips will help streamline your submission process.

Equations

You will need to input equations according to the Latex notation system. See this guide for detailed information. Futher examples are provided on the equation editor page.

Tables

Tables should be submitted in Microsoft Excel, one document per table. Please include the relevant table caption in the excel file.

We use this restrictive format (as opposed to HTML or Word) to limit the amount of work required to convert the tables to XML. HTML tables often include incredible amounts of unsupported markup, especially Word tables, where the document source often has no distinction between different columns and rows.

Trial

All publications in Journal of the Virtual Explorer since the end of 2003 have been using this system, which was developed by our Technical Director, Aidan Lister. The in-house trial period has now ended and selected authors are now being invited to submit and edit their papers on-line. If you want to take part in this trial please let us know.
