This special edition of the Journal of the Virtual Explorer is entitled "Analogue Modelling of Large-Scale Tectonic Processes", edited by Wouter Pieter Schellart from the Australian Crustal Research Centre at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, and Cees Passchier from the Department of Earth Sciences at Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany.

Papers in this volume are concerned with downscaled physical laboratory experiments (analogue experiments). Topics include analogue modelling of crustal and/or lithospheric scale processes (e.g. subduction, rifting, convection, gravity spreading, continental collision, indentation tectonics, escape tectonics, thrusting, strike-slip faulting, etc.), either applied to a specific geological example or more theoretical in outline.
